The Augusta Forest Partnership was formed in 2002 by Roger Dickie Forestry Limited. Augusta Forest consists of two separate blocks of land. 271.9 hectares are in the Hawke’s Bay(Reed block), located 35 kilometres (20 miles) west of Napier. 95.5 ha are part of the Mangamahu Forest located 52 kilometres (30 miles) north east of Wanganui. This latter block is part of a larger area of some 134.2 hectares that was planted in Radiata pine in 1994. Augusta Forest Partnership acquired a 50% share of these pines. Augusta is an outstanding property with both blocks situated in fertile, high rainfall areas well known for excellent forest growth rates.
The Reed block was purchased by Roger Dickie (NZ) Ltd in December 2002 and is close to the Port of Napier and 24 km from the Tongoio mill. The block is in close proximity to a number of Radiata forest managed by Roger Dickie’s forest managers and there are excellent economy of scale benefits arising from this location. The Hawkes Bay block has a 2km boundary on the Aropaoanui River; walking, mountain biking and horse riding are activities able to be enjoyed in the area.
The Mangamahu block of Augusta was purchased from HDL Limited, the company who established, owned and managed the property. Before purchase our forest consultant and forest manager were satisfied that the management of the forest had been carried out to an acceptable standard. The Mangamahu block of Augusta Forest is accessed by a well formed and correctly graded forestry road.
